THE HALL OF FAME

An activist is someone who tries hard to bring social change into the world. There are many vocal activists that are fighting to end climate change and help save our oceans and environment. Have a look at some of them below!

Greta Thumberg

“This is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced. This is not something you can like on Facebook.”

A young Swedish activist who is well-known for her speech to the UN Climate Action Summit and her climate strikes to spread awareness about global warming. She was selected as the TIME’s Person of the Year in 2019 and earned a Nobel Peace Prize for her strong activism and leadership. Today, Greta still educates others about the dangers of climate change through social media, climate strikes, and speeches.

“The point is that people here can’t petition to protest and do something about the climate. Even if people want to change [things] they think activism in China will fail and the cost is too [high].”

A young Chinese activist who is well-known for her climate strikes that have even gotten her removed once by police. Howey has helped inspire many other Chinese students to speak up about the effects of climate change and is continuing to push the Chinese government to take further action about it. The eighth clue in this scavenger hunt is the word "together".

Bill McKibben

“Very few people on earth ever get to say: "I am doing, right now, the most important thing I could possibly be doing." If you'll join this fight that's what you'll get to say.”

An American activist and author who is well-known for his book “The End of Nature” and similar books about his research related to global warming. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Prize and became the founder of the climate change movement 350.org.

“Climate change has never received the crisis treatment from our leaders, despite the fact that it carries the risk of destroying lives on a vastly greater scale than collapsed banks or collapsed buildings.”

A Canadian activist and author who has spoken about many social issues, including the effects of global warming on this planet. Her book “This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate” is especially well-known for her connection to democracy and climate change, explaining deeply how we must take a stronger stance to save our planet.

“This is not going away. At this point of unimaginable threats on the horizon, this is what hope looks like.”

An American activist known for his civil disobedience where he refused to pay for a million dollar fossil industry he placed a bid on. Although his actions have led to consequences being trialed in the criminal justice system, he has spoken as a guest in many speeches and is the founder of the Peaceful Uprising, an organization aimed to encourage others to speak up about the world’s problems with non-violence.
